The custom handle of this ferro rod is made from Scrub Oak with a portion of the oak bark remaining for a naturally textured grip. The bark also gives it the rich red and brown colors that also make it unique. The large size oak handles make it large enough to handle, even while wearing winter gloves.

This ferro rod is comfortable in the hand, which makes it easy to use. It throws a large shower of sparks that will light prepared tinder immediately.

The exposed portion of the ferro rod is approximately 5 ¼ inches long. The custom handles vary between 4 ½ and 5 ½ inches in length. Overall length of rod and handle is between 10 and 11 inches. The ferro rod is painted black to preserve the ferrocerium and a lanyard to safeguard from dropping. Scratch off a bit of the paint and begin striking!

This is a great survival tool for starting fires! Use for bushcraft, camping, hiking, or starting charcoal briquettes at home. The crooks and bends of the Scrub Oak tree give the handle its unique character. Because it’s handmade, it starts off with just enough imperfections to give it even more character.

It’s large enough to produce approximately 20,000 strikes, this ferro rod could last a lifetime.
