ALTA SURVIVAL & PREPAREDNESS

Practical preparedness for everyday people

Alta Survival helps households build the knowledge and skills to handle everyday disruptions and larger emergencies. If you’re new to preparedness, start with something your household depends on, like safe water, and make one improvement you can put into practice.

Why I started Alta Survival

I’m Mike Gardner, founder of Alta Survival & Preparedness. I started Alta Survival to make preparedness easier to understand and easier to begin. When the choices feel overwhelming, a useful first question is: If a service stopped working today, what would my household need to keep doing? The answer gives you a place to start.

Knowledge first. Skills second. Gear third.

Knowledge helps you understand what could happen and which household needs would be affected. Skills give you a way to respond and practice before you need to. Gear supports the skills you use. For example, before buying a water filter, check how long your stored water would last, what your current treatment method can handle, and what backup you could use.

The Preparedness Passport

The Passport gives you a way to build and track practical capability. At Prepared, you understand what to do and why. At Capable, you can put it into practice. At Field Ready, you demonstrate the capability under the applicable requirements.

Explore six areas: Survival, Navigation & Communication, Personal Safety, Vehicle Preparedness, Disaster Ready, and Long-Term Ready.

Make one improvement this week

Use the Water Supply Check to see how long your current supply would last. Then choose one improvement and decide when you’ll check your progress.
