Privacy Policy

Who we are
Alta Survival & Preparedness, operated by Mike Gardner, provides educational resources at https://altasurvival.com. You can contact us using the email and mailing address below.
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
A coded identifier created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for a year. If you select "Remember Me", your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after 1 day.
Analytics and advertising tracking
Alta Survival has not configured Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or additional visitor analytics or advertising tracking tools. This does not prevent hosting services, externally loaded content, the Reach script or affiliate destinations from processing the technical information described in this policy. We will update this policy before introducing new analytics or advertising tools.
Embedded content from other websites
Some site images are loaded from external servers, including images.openai.com. Requesting an external image can disclose technical request information such as an IP address and browser information to that provider. Articles may also include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.
These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Who we share your data with
If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
Public account registration is currently disabled. For authorized website users, we store the personal information provided in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
Where your data is sent
WordPress uses comment information to support moderation and help identify spam. Comments and profile images may also involve the Gravatar service described above.
Hosting and website performance
Alta Survival & Preparedness operates this educational website using WordPress and Hostinger hosting. Technical information, such as IP addresses, requested pages, browser information and request times, may be processed to deliver the website, maintain security and investigate errors.
The website uses LiteSpeed Cache to improve loading performance. Public pages normally have a cache lifetime of one week; private cached pages have a lifetime of 30 minutes. Cached copies may be removed sooner when pages are updated or caches are cleared. QUIC.cloud services are not currently enabled in LiteSpeed. Backup copies may retain information present on the website after it is changed or removed. Hostinger documents automatic daily backups retained for 7 days and weekly backups retained for 6 weeks. Older backup copies are removed through that rotation. These periods describe automatic backups, not separately downloaded copies. Technical and security logs are managed by Hostinger for operating, protecting and troubleshooting its services; its public website-log guidance does not specify one fixed deletion period for every type of log. For provider details, see Hostinger’s Privacy Policy.
Affiliate links and other websites
Some links lead to affiliate partners or other third-party websites. Alta Survival may earn a commission if you purchase through an identified affiliate link. Once you follow a link, the destination website and affiliate network may process information under their own privacy policies, including information used to attribute a referral or purchase. Review those policies before providing information or making a purchase.
Affiliate partner information is available on our Support Alta Survival page.
Email subscriptions and contact messages
Hostinger Reach is installed but is not currently connected for subscriber synchronization or email delivery. The homepage loads a Reach script from Hostinger; loading external resources can disclose technical request information, such as an IP address and browser details, to that provider. We will update this policy with the information collected, purposes, consent choices, retention, tracking and unsubscribe details before launching subscriptions to the Alta Survival Monthly Field Briefing.
If you contact us by email, your message, contact information and any information you choose to provide are used to respond and manage the correspondence. We retain routine inquiries for 12 months after resolution, then delete them unless a longer period is needed for an ongoing business matter, legal obligation or security issue.
Contact and privacy requests
For privacy questions or requests about information held by Alta Survival, contact info@altasurvival.com. We may ask for information needed to verify a request before releasing or deleting personal information. Applicable rights and exceptions depend on your location and the information involved.
